I had the paragard for a year and then switched to the mirena. I hate the paragard because my cramps were unbearably painful. Usually the heavy flow and bad cramps (no hormones in this copper IUD) subside after about 6 months (as they did for my mom), but this was not the case for me. After a year I couldn’t take it and I swapped it out for the mirena. The hormones of the mirena have never effected me and my period stopped after about 3 months (this is normal and wonderful!). I had occasional spotting in the beginning and would only get my (light) period if I was super stressed. My mirena is amazing and I highly suggest you get an IUD whether you chose the paragard or the mirena.

Neither messed with my sex drive, so that problem should be solved!
